At CompMed we recognise both traditional and evidence-based protocols, using techniques that have been scientifically proven to work for certain conditions.
Acupuncture involves the stimulation of specific points on the body, the acupoints, by fine needles. Based on the principles of Chinese Medicine, Qi or vital energy circulates between organs along channels called meridians. The acupoints are located along these meridians and act as a means of altering the flow, strength and quality of Qi to maintain health.
At the beginning of your acupuncture session your practitioner will ask you about your condition, medical history, current medications and look at any scans or results you may bring in. Your practitioner will also ask you questions and examine your pulse and tongue and may palpate your abdomen. Then your practitioner will discuss with you a treatment plan for your particular condition and commence the treatment. Acupuncture’s mode of action can be accumulative and your treatment plan will be individually designed to address your concerns to achieve optimal health outcomes.
At CompMed we only use the finest, single use, sterile, disposable needles and equipment. Your acupuncturist is trained to a University level, with extensive post graduate training in painless needling technique. As such you may not feel the needles or may experience some mild tingling sensations. Your treatment may include the use of electro-acupuncture, laser, ear acupuncture, cupping and/or moxa.
Acupuncturists at CompMed are passionate about their modality and continue their quest for refining their techniques in many different styles of acupuncture. At present our main three approaches include Chinese, Japanese and Taiwanese acupuncture and we honour our masters for generously passing on this integral knowledge for our patients benefit.
