Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture isn’t painful, it’s sensational! The needles are fine as hair and solid, so when they enter you may feel a tiny prick and slight aching sensation around the point, or you may feel nothing. Acupuncturists at CompMed are highly trained in painless needle technique and will communicate with you about your sensations along the way to ensure a most comfortable acupuncture experience.
What shall I bring to my session?
Please bring any relevant test or scan results, a food diary if you have one, your health insurance details and/or senior card and wear loose comfortable clothing to your session.
How long does it take?
At CompMed we know time is of the essence and generally run on time with our patient sessions. If you ever have to wait it won’t be long and we keep our comfortable waiting room stocked with up-to-date magazines and filtered water for your waiting convenience. Initial sessions take 60 minutes, but please arrive 10 minutes early to your first session to fill out the initial form and relax. Follow up sessions are 45 minutes.
How many treatments will I need?
Acupuncture’s mode of action is accumulative which means that each time you have a session, it stacks upon the last session. The amount of treatments is determined on an individual basis. If your condition is chronic then you will more likely need regular treatments for a longer period of time. However for acute conditions there will be more frequent sessions closer together for a shorter period. Your acupuncturist will discuss your treatment plan with you and re-evaluate your condition on a regular basis, adjusting your treatment plan accordingly.
Where do I park?
Plentiful Metered Street parking is available on Bay Street and in the surrounding streets. Please allow an hour in your parking meter so that you can fully relax in your session without worrying about fines.
What are my payment options?
CompMed Health Institute accepts VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Seniors discount and has a HICAPS eftpos machine for fast and easy health fund claims. Our practitioners are AACMA members which means ALL private health insurance companies recognise our services. Your health insurance refund will depend on your level of cover.
My condition isn't listed, can you still help me?
Yes. Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis does not follow the Western medical system of naming disease. Rather we find the imbalances or trauma that have caused the disease and work from this perspective. In this way even complicated conditions can be simplified and addressed clearly. If you’re still unsure please feel free to call or email us and we will attempt to answer your query as soon as possible.
Can acupuncture benefit me if I'm not sick?
Yes. The traditional Chinese proverb states: "Why wait to start digging the well when you are already thirsty?"
This means you shouldn't wait until your imbalances show as pain or disease before you begin to prevent them. Acupuncture is most effective as a preventative medicine and may have the added side effects of stress relief, energy improvement and a greater sense of wellbeing.
